Okay, so I have been looking at these for ages because we are quite the Doctor Who fans in our house. I really was conflicted about which one to purchase because I wanted a one that was decent quality that it wouldn’t shrivel up and die once I got it. I finally had to commit when my youngest decided he really wanted to be a certain version of the Doctor for Halloween and he needed the fez to complete his look. Well, this was the perfect choice. Not only did it have the fez but it came with a bow tie. Now for those of you looking to use this for children like I was you really won’t be able to the bow tie. Its too big and doesn’t adjust small enough for my little guy. That being said the hat is pretty great. It still has room to grow but fits well enough he won’t have a problem wearing it. He does have a pretty big head for an 8 year old though so it might be hit and miss for some of you. My thoughts were if it didn’t work he could always grow into it or one of his older sisters could use it. We were especially pleased when it arrived and it was official BBC merchandise rather than another company. So, if you are trying to stay true to the Doctor this is going to be the choice for you and yours 🙂

I’m the mom of an 11 year old Whovian who went NUTS when this arrived. Scored some mom points, right there. Then he put the bow tie on, and within literal minutes (less than 5) it completely fell apart. He was crushed. I mean, it wasn’t super expensive, so I wasn’t expecting it to be bullet proof, but I did expect more than say … a day or so of wear. He’s a nerdy kid who loves Dr Who … so “rough” treatment wasn’t really a factor. With my (extremely rudimentary) sewing skills, I was able to piece the bow tie back together, and it appears that my poor sewing is superior to whatever methods used to construct this thing, which is mind boggling. My son is now singing my praises, lousy sewing skills and all. Scored all the mom points in the world … but really shouldn’t have had to.

The Fez is the perfect size, and the bowtie is cool to, no pun intended there. I mean the way it clips on, it has a hook kind of clasp so its not a full on bowtie that looks like a ribbon but its not a clip on either. Basically the bowtie goes around your neck like the ribbon bowties that are hard to tie and has a hook kind of thing that is easily hidden behind the bowtie or around the back of your neck and its adjustable. Sometimes I wear this for funzies out in public, people either get it or they dont, they either love it and come up to you and ask you all kinds of questions or they stare at you awkwardly form a distance. Grocery shopping has never been more fun….except the banana suit. Seriously get a sonic screwdriver though and whovians just go mad when you wear this in your sports coat. Epic times epic times.

took weeks of leaving the hat out in the open for the smell to fade… is it the color? or was it stored with other items that imbued it with this strong smell? the hat itself was lovely, just hard to stomach (literally 🙂

My 9 year old bought this for his 11 year old sister who is a Doctor Who fanatic. She had wanted a fez and bowtie, so this combo was perfect for her. The fez is squishy (made of fabric covered foam(?) and comes folded, so there was a slight crease in it for awhile till she finally played with it enough to smooth it out. The bow tie is just a tad big for her, but it looks well enough. She really loved it.
